Projects
For the GRT to enact its philosophy and higher-order goal of social and economic transformation, the GRT looks to projects that strengthen societal conscience, address national imperatives, and engage for service to the community. The GRT has so far established four projects under the broader working themes of astrophysics, instrumentation, and science; mining, engineering, and infrastructure; cultural identity and social cohesion; and political dynamics and institutions.
GRT-Inspired
The Gauteng Research Triangle Initiative for the Study of Population, Infrastructure and Regional Economic Development
astroGRT
The astroGRT collaboration aims to strengthen and expand the astrophysics community in Gauteng and the northern cluster of universities in South Africa, further enhancing its national and international stature.
GRT-MLASC
Museums, Libraries, Archives and Special Collections
The GRT MLASC collective has been formed to focus and centre the precious assets that the University of the Witwatersrand, the University of Johannesburg and the University of Pretoria steward, in a quest to amplify, grow and project their use into the second century of their existence.
Mining, minerals, & infrastructure
Partnerships outside of academia and traditional higher education funders, as well as increased participation, are opportunities for the GRT to increase the efficiency and impact of the mining and minerals engineering sciences.
